Barcelona have announced the signing of a shirt and stadium sponsorship contract with Spotify, the audio streaming platform. Camp Nou, one of the world’s most popular football stadiums , has been renamed Spotify Camp Nou as part of a sponsorship agreement with Spanish football club FC Barcelona that gives the platform naming rights for the stadium.
The name of the platform will also appear on the jerseys of the men’s and women’s teams for the next four seasons, starting with the 2022/23 season.
The agreement must be ratified by the Extraordinary Assembly of FC Barcelona by a vote on 3 April. But the deal is unlikely to have trouble getting approved.
Barcelona is heavily indebted and sought to sell a stake in its media production division last year. The deal is reportedly worth $310 million.
Spanish magazine SPORT reported that it would have been more valuable if the club had a higher proportion of registered fans who gave the club access to names, emails and other personal information.
According to the report, only about 1 percent of the club’s 350 million followers are registered.
Barcelona and Spotify agree on sponsorship deal
“Spotify is using its sponsorship as an opportunity to expand the reach of artists’ work in a way that brings the worlds of music and football together,” the platform said in a statement. As a result we want to give a global platform to the players and artists of Spotify Camp Nou.
She added: “Spotify is working with Barcelona to take advantage of access to items in the stadium to expand access for artists and enable discovery.”
Dynamic digital shows can also be used to showcase and geographically target relevant artists to Barcelona’s global TV audience.
While viewers in Europe may see a message about one artist, TV viewers in India can get a different and locally relevant message.
This could mean that the platform invests in digital stadium ads that change based on your location and the channel you are watching the match on.
“The vision of the partnership is to create a new platform to help artists interact with the global FC Barcelona fan community,” the club said in a statement.
