On Sunday, IOC President Thomas Bach declared the Winter Olympics in Beijing over. The team from Russia finished ninth overall with 32 medals, setting a new national record. Germany is in second place in the medal table.
According to the results of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the Russian team took ninth place in the medals total. The athletes won six gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals in ten disciplines. In terms of total medals, the team is second behind Norway.
In addition, the athletes set a new national record at the Winter Games. The previous record was 30 medals and was set in Sochi in 2018. The team also exceeded all expectations: the Russian Olympic Committee had declared 30 medals as the official target for Beijing before the games.
Cross-country skiers, figure skaters and biathletes won the most medals for Russia. The most successful was 25-year-old Alexander Bolschunov: he won three gold medals and one silver and one bronze medal and is the first cross-country skier to win five medals in one tournament.
The Kremlin said that all victories are appreciated because they contribute to the development of sport and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
Norway took first place overall with 16 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze medals. Germany took second place with 27 medals.
