Apple plans to release a new iPad Pro powered by the M2 processor sometime between September and November this year, according to a Power On newsletter from journalist Mark Gorman.

Gorman expects the company to release a major update for the next generation iPad Pro, which should include MagSafe charging support.

As Gorman points out, the company delivered a significant update to the iPad Pro in 2018, when it introduced a angular design, an edge-to-edge display, and a USB-C connector. This update came about a year and a half after the 10.5-inch iPad Pro was released in 2017.

And it seems that the company wants to repeat the same approach this year, as it launched the latest generation of the iPad Pro equipped with the M1 processor in May 2021.

The launch date between September and November 2022 indicates that Apple needs between one year and four months and one year and six months to prepare the new model.

During the company’s Peek Performance event earlier this month, Apple showed off its latest iPad Air, replacing the tablet’s A-series processor with the M1 chip. But it didn’t show an updated iPad Pro model.

Gorman predicted last year that the iPad Pro would come with wireless charging capabilities and a glass back. A new report from 9to5Mac supports this claim.

But 9to5Mac’s sources say Apple may have ditched the glass back design, potentially opting for an aluminum back with its glass logo instead.

There wasn’t much information about the M2 chip either, as it hasn’t been confirmed by the company yet. Gorman believes that the M2 may have the same octa-core processor as the M1 but with a greater efficiency due to the 4nm processor.

It should also offer better graphics performance with 9 and 10 core processor options. That is higher than the current 7- and 8-core versions of the M1.

It is also expected that Apple will add an M2 chip to each of the new iPad Pro. In addition to the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and 24-inch iMac.

The M2 chip may also power the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Air. This is despite the fact that a prominent Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, believes that this laptop may retain the M1 processor.
