During the event ‘s annual NIO Day , which was held in the city of Suzhou in China this year, the company unveiled the new electric car medium – sized sedan, ET5.
And with more than 1,000 kilometers of Chinese light vehicle test cycle range and prices under $41,000 with the battery swap version, it could be a serious competitor to Tesla in China.
In addition, the company provided updates on new deliveries and features via ET7, and NIO’s plans for global expansion
NIO Day is an event that takes place every year and is usually the opportunity for the Chinese automaker to showcase new electric car models.
NIO Day 2020 was held in January of 2021. But then the company revealed its flagship sedan, the ET7.
At the time, the company stated that this new electric car would be the first of three electric cars to debut on the NIO 2.0 technology platform in 2022.
Last October, the company confirmed that this year’s event will be held on December 18 at the Olympic Sports Center in Suzhou, west of Shanghai.
And speculation has begun about what the automaker might reveal this year. Especially the less expensive sedan rumored to be the ET5.
And last week, the company started teasing at least one new vehicle that resembles the rear end of the ET7. During the event, the company officially revealed ET5.
The company shared more details about ET5 through a press release that coincided with the reveal. According to the automaker, the ET5 was designed with autonomous driving in mind by incorporating autonomous driving sensors into its body lines.
NIO ET7 enters the European market starting with Norway and Germany
The ET5 comes with Autonomous Driving, Aquila Super Sensing and Adam Super Computing, allowing the new electric vehicle to progressively achieve safe autonomous driving in scenarios such as highways, urban areas and parking lots.
The company said its self-driving features are being rolled out gradually after validation. It can be added with a monthly subscription of $107.
The ET5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The car also provides a braking distance from a speed of 100 kilometers per hour to a complete stop in 33.9 metres.
It has a range of more than 500 km with a standard range battery of 75 kW. And 700 km with a long-range battery 100 kW. And more than 1,000 kilometers with a long-range 150 kW battery.
The interior of the ET5 also comes with PanoCinema, a panoramic digital cockpit that features AR and VR technology.
The company has partnered with augmented reality hardware company NREAL to develop augmented reality glasses. The glasses can display a 201-inch screen at a height of 6 meters for drivers.
There’s also an all-new 256-color veil of ambient light and Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround sound.
ET5 is priced at $51,450. It also has a battery as a service price of $4,468. Deliveries in China are expected to begin in September 2022.
