Next week, Apple is preparing to release iOS 15.4. The update, which has been in beta since January, comes packed with a range of new features that deliver improvements to the overall user experience.
Apple doesn’t specify an exact release date, but iOS 15.4 may become available for download as an update on March 18. And this is the same day that the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro will be available in green.
As mentioned in the press release, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro are shipped with iOS 15.4. As a result, it makes sense to release the update on the same day.
iOS 15.4 brings Face ID compatible with a face mask, which makes it possible to unlock your phone while wearing a face mask, a feature that works well in beta.
Apple previously tried to address the face mask issue by creating a feature that bypasses Face ID and instead verifies your identity with your Apple Watch if you have one.
The new update is supposed to make the process of unlocking your phone much smoother while wearing a mask. It doesn’t have to require you to repeatedly type the passcode or strap your Apple Watch to your wrist.
A new Tap to Pay feature is also rolling out with iOS 15.4, turning compatible iPhones into contactless payment terminals.
This means that you may see more merchants using iPhones as a kind of digital cash register. And it could potentially replace Square card readers that plug directly into iPhones.
The feature supports payments using Apple Pay, credit and debit cards that support NFC technology, as well as other digital wallets.
Apple has provided iOS 15.4 with many features
And iOS 15.4 introduces a new security feature for the AirTag tracker that was used to stalk people. The update includes a notice warning users against using AirTag to track someone’s location without their consent. That’s based on the anti-stalking features the company released in February.
Other notable features include the fifth American voice of its assistant Siri. iOS 15.4 also introduces 36 new emojis that you can use to spice up your messages.
iOS 15.4 is compatible with any device that supports iOS 15, from the first generation iPhone 6S to iPhone 13.
Compatible devices include iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE (1st and 2nd generation), iPod touch (7th generation).
