Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in an interview with Bloomberg that the company has had internal discussions about cryptocurrencies all the time.
The CEO revealed that Uber intends to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies at some point in the future in exchange for rides.
However, the company is taking the same approach as Tesla by waiting for changes that may lower transaction fees and make it more environmentally friendly.
Now is not the time, Khosrowshahi said. It seems that the high fees for transferring and the negative environmental impacts of mining mining are some of the reasons why the platform is not yet accepting Bitcoin.
“I think you might see us lean towards cryptocurrencies a little bit more as the switching mechanism becomes less expensive and more environmentally friendly,” Khosrowshahi said.
