What are the steps for self-detection to diagnose the Coronavirus?

self-detection corona

Can you self-identify to determine whether you are infected with coronavirus? Is it a method of self-detection to hold breath for ten seconds? Can you diagnose corona disease without visiting a doctor?

Although people continue to take precautions against the spread of the Coronavirus, concerns about the virus have also led to widespread misinformation about how to prevent or diagnose the disease.

Earlier this year, after an outbreak of the disease with a mysterious virus in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, the World Health Organization identified a new type of coronavirus, the new Corona Virus “In Cove 2019” (2019 nCoV), which can be fatal.

The organization called it the severe acute respiratory coronavirus “2-SARS-CoV-2” and called the disease caused by “Covid-19”.

The disease spread from Wuhan to the rest of China and then to the countries of the world. To this day, the number of infections worldwide exceeded 208,420, and 8,273 deaths .

Let’s start with the most prominent message being circulated on social media, which “falsely” provides excellent advice from Japanese doctors who treat corona virus: People who can hold their breath for ten seconds without coughing can be sure that they have no corona infection.

This is not true, says Lauren Rauch, a community emergency doctor at the Antelope Valley Hospital in Los Angeles, stressing that there is no connection between how long you can hold your breath and catch a coronavirus.

The publication also conveys “falsely,” and says “Stanford University professors say that drinking water continuously, at least every 15 minutes, can help wash away the Corona virus before it causes infection.”

This is explained by the fact that this process rinses the virus from your mouth or throat to your stomach, where stomach acid kills the virus. Also, it is false that warm water or salt water kills the virus. This is “completely false, this is not real,” says Lauren Rauch.

It is also false that the symptoms of a SK infection always begin with a sore throat. The truth is that symptoms of the virus usually begin with fever and a dry cough. Although some people may have a sore throat, their percentage is lower.

What are the main symptoms?
In a recent WHO analysis of more than 55,000 cases of corona in China, these most common symptoms were identified, and the percentage of people who had it:

1- Fever: 88%
2- Dry cough: 68%
3- Fatigue: 38% cough
4- phlegm or thick phlegm from the lungs: 33%
5- Shortness of breath: 19%
6- Bone or joint pain: 15%
7- Sore throat: 14%
8- Headache: 14%
9- Chills: 11%
10- Nausea or vomiting: 5%
11- Nasal obstruction: 5%
12- Diarrhea: 4%
13- Bloody cough: 1%
14- Eye swelling: 1%

Corona virus (Covid-19) is an infection of the lower respiratory tract, which consists of the trachea, bronchi, and air sacs in the lungs, which means that most symptoms are felt in the chest and lungs.

This is different from the common cold that causes upper respiratory infection, as you have a runny nose and sinus congestion.

The good news
In China, most people who get sick – about 80% – have mild to moderate symptoms, which means they can be managed at home. The average time between infection and the onset of symptoms is about 5 days.

In China, about 14% of people who are diagnosed with corona have severe symptoms, such as breathing difficulties and low oxygen in the blood, and they need additional oxygen and sometimes specialized equipment to help them breathe.

People who appear to be at higher risk for serious complications and develop a critical condition – between 1 and 20 – are those over the age of 60, and people with previous medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, or cancer.

What is the correct procedure when suspecting an injury?
The truth is that there is no such thing as a self-detection or self-diagnosis of the Coronavirus, if you suspect that you may have the virus, contact your doctor.

Do not go to the clinic or hospital directly, because you may risk spreading the virus if you are infected, contact the doctor or health authorities in your country, which will arrange the subject of your examination.

When contacting the doctor, you will be advised over the phone if you comply with the specifications of the suspected virus, and examination options will be discussed, whether you need immediate treatment, safe transfer of quarantine or isolation, or only quarantine at home.

In addition, if you think you might be ill with corona, avoid contacting others, and do not share personal things like towels and bedding, cover your mouth and nose while coughing, sneezing and yawning, and wash your hands frequently.

If you have a mask, wear it to protect others, and keep at least 1.5 meters from the others.
